Barista Parlor Shutters Three Places | Bites

Native espresso firm Barista Parlor is ready to shut three of its brick-and-mortar places.

The final day of operations on the espresso store’s Hillsboro Village, Sylvan Provide and Germantown places is ready for Sunday. Barista Parlor will retain its outposts on the W Resort, the Nashville Worldwide Airport and in East Nashville, proprietor Andy Mumma confirms to the Scene.

The remaining brick-and-mortar location at 519 Gallatin Ave. will shut briefly and is ready to bear a “refresh,” says Mumma. That may embrace paring down the drink menu, eliminating matcha and different specialty drinks and specializing in guide brew strategies and domestically roasted espresso, he says. The enterprise’s coffee-roasting gear may also be relocated to the East location, with Mumma anticipating a reopening in roughly a month’s time.

Mumma says the corporate’s revenue was merely not sufficient to offset a mix of excessive rents, insurance coverage prices, taxes, greater espresso prices and labor prices. In Germantown the lease greater than doubled, he tells the Scene

“Now we have a $9 common ticket,” he says. “It would not work any longer to have the ability to pay these rents and taxes and the way a lot these things prices with these small margins.”

“It simply hasn’t been enjoyable for me for years,” he provides. “I wish to make it enjoyable once more, I wish to make it thrilling for me, for the friends. I feel the easiest way to do that is to simply focus, convey all of it again and simply focus on making [the East Nashville location] superior once more.”

Barista Parlor has skilled labor disputes up to now, as soon as in 2022 when a former worker of The Gulch location was allegedly fired after making an attempt to arrange employees to petition for greater wages. In 2023, 24 staff give up or had been fired on the Germantown and Marathon Village places after a basic supervisor resigned, citing a “belittling” work surroundings. Mumma estimates 15 staff will likely be let go due to the upcoming closings.

The East location, which opened in 2012, was Barista Parlor’s first. It added a Gulch location and a Germantown location in 2014. A Marathon Village location opened in 2018 and later closed in 2023. The W Nashville Resort location happened in 2020. Two places closed in 2025, one close to Geodis Park on Benton Avenue and one in Louisville, Ky. Plans for a location on the Paseo South Gulch growth to interchange the unique Gulch Golden Sound location, in addition to a roasting and manufacturing hub in Wedgewood-Houston, by no means got here to fruition.

“I do not suppose excessive price of products, excessive insurance coverage, excessive lease, excessive taxes, excessive labor is restricted to BP,” Mumma says. “That is one thing that I feel loads of bars and eating places are having to beat. What we received, in its present kind, is now not sustainable. It was when taxes had been reasonably priced and rents had been half what they’re now and all that. However it’s simply now not potential.”
