The Mallett Brothers Band unveils “Canines and Horses,” the most recent single from their forthcoming album Increased Up within the Hills, out April 4th. (hear above) The monitor options legendary pianist Chuck Leavell, identified for his work with The Rolling Stones and The Allman Brothers Band, who provides his signature piano and organ work, recorded on the historic Capricorn Studios.
“Canines and Horses” captures the dichotomous nature of rural Americana life, with Luke Mallett’s lyrics conjuring up broken-down tractors and mounting gravel piles alongside the nomadism of touring life. The monitor builds dramatically as violin, electrical guitars, piano, and organ cascade over one another, making a wealthy sonic panorama.
“‘Canines and Horses’ is a love tune at its roots,” explains Luke Mallett. “It’s a tune about two individuals constructing a life across the issues that they love after which balancing and supporting one another in these endeavors.” The tune grew from Mallett’s expertise balancing life as a touring musician with supporting his spouse Carissa’s business horse farm in Maine. “These existence aren’t suitable in any respect. I spend half my life out on the street, and he or she spends 12 hours a day within the barn caring for animals. If it isn’t one factor, it’s one other, however the best way that we attempt to maintain one another up is admittedly what I used to be moved to write down about.”
The collaboration with Chuck Leavell emerged from the band’s look on his PBS collection “America’s Forests.” “After we have been bringing this tune to life within the studio, all of us agreed that keys would match the vibe actually, very well,” Mallett notes. “Having his piano and organ on the tune introduced it to a complete new place.”
